E-module on the intersections of family, criminal and child protection law now available

Monday, 4 March 2019

We have recently launched a new multi-jurisdictional e-learning training module titled Intersections.

This training module is available for Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) staff, private practitioners and community legal centre employees.

Access the Intersections module.

Intersections is an interactive training module with three learning streams aimed primarily at criminal lawyers, family lawyers and child protection lawyers.

It focuses on the complex cross-jurisdictional issues that lawyers routinely deal with but can find challenging in busy practices, and it replicates the real life environments in which lawyers see clients and engage with other professionals.

Intersections has been developed by VLA’s Family Violence program in collaboration with 15 lawyers from across our program areas. It features commentary from three VLA subject matter experts.

This module is for:

  • Criminal lawyers who have clients facing concurrent criminal and intervention order proceedings, and who need to know the implications for clients’ family law and child protection cases.
  • Family lawyers who have clients with fast developing criminal and child protection issues.
  • Child protection lawyers who worry what might happen to a client when they are also facing criminal charges, or when DHHS agrees to withdraw if the client pursues orders in the family court.

The module attracts one continuing professional development (CPD) point per stream, and three points if you complete the entire module, in the areas of substantive law or professional skills.
