They won't get away with silencing us this easily.

Last night, in response to a call out from Earth Hour Australia, AGL's and Origin's Facebook feeds were filled with comments querying their stance on the RET. We jumped on the bandwagon to...o, counteracting AGL's and Origin's spin with the facts. Within minutes our comments had been deleted and GetUp had been banned from posting on their page.

But they can't silence all of us. Will you join us in setting the record straight?

Huge rallies in support of accessible education are taking place tomorrow organised by the National Union of Students. These rallies couldn't come at a better time: Parliament's spring sitting period kicks off next Tuesday, and word is the ...vote on higher education could take place as soon as next week.

With Education Minister Christopher Pyne conceding that he'll likely have to "compromise" on his higher education package, a huge public outcry could be the difference between keeping education affordable for all, or a lifetime of debt for Australian students.

How much is our Great Barrier Reef worth to the Queensland LNP? $150,000 apparently.

Paul Darrouzet donated $150,000 to the LNP. A week later he got permission to dredge near the Great Barrier Reef.

It's just one of many instances of see...mingly dodgy decision making impacting upon our reef. Tonight, Four Corners will investigate another poor decision: the choice to allow the dumping of dredge spoil within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. We'll be watching, and you should too. Well, Christopher Pyne seemed to enjoy his birthday gift, but it looks like the sugar high from all that cake has left him a little bit confused.

His claim that 80,000 more students a year will have access to higher education under his pac...kage is dubious at best. It ignores the sad truth that once faced with exorbitant student fees and a lifetime of debt, many Australians will be deterred from entering university.

Let's set the record straight, shall we? Let Mr Pyne know just what you think of his proposed education reforms.

In Australia, we often talk about asylum seekers as an "issue" that needs to be dealt with. But what if we stopped, for just a moment, to get to know the people and the stories behind the issue?

Well-known Humans of New York photographer B...randon Stanton is doing just that on his UN World Tour to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals.

This is the story of a family he met when visiting the Zaatari Refugee camp in Jordan:

"Tell me about the day you decided to leave Syria."
"Our house was next to a checkpoint for the government, so we thought it was safe. There were snipers around, but we thought they knew us. They'd seen us everyday. But one day the electricity got very weak. The television was still working, but the refrigerator and washing machine cut off, so my brother went into the yard to check it. And then we heard a scream. It wasn't exactly a scream, more like an 'Ahhhh!' And I ran outside. And there he was."
"What is your fondest memory of your brother?"
"When we built a second story for our house, my brother and I spent the whole day working together. We were playing tricks on people. We were putting salt in their tea. We were hiding instead of working. We were laughing the entire day."
"What were you thinking when you found him in the yard?"
"'How can I save him?' How can I save him?' How can I save him? How can I save him? How can I save him?'"
"What did your mother say?"
"She didn't say a thing. The whole family was screaming. But she didn't make a sound."

Happy Birthday Christopher Pyne, we have something for you!

Today, GetUp members and local students delivered our gift to Minister Pyne - a 56,000 signature strong petition and the chance to back down on proposed changes to higher education.

With polling showing Mr Pyne is at risk of losing his own seat, ditching the policy may be the only way he can ensure his birthday wish to remain in office comes true.

With a five bedroom harbour-side home, a cattle farm and a coastal retreat, Joe Hockey is clearly the reigning expert on the lifestyle of Australia's poor.

Don't believe it? Just ask him (or don't because he'll probably tell you anyway); t...hey're leaners, they prioritise beer and cigarettes over taking their kids to the doctor, they don't drive cars.

This week, the Institute of Public Affairs released a report purporting to uncover "media bias" in the ABC, and calling for our iconic public broadcaster to be privatised as soon as possible. We had a good laugh until we realised -- this is... no joke.

The scary truth is we're watching the IPA's radical conservative agenda become a reality -- and with a heap of cash and supporters like Gina Rinehart and Rupert Murdoch, it's not difficult to see what their real agenda is.

We can't let them win this round. Will you help us fight back? http://bit.ly/1sQrZ41

First Do No Harm. That's the oath that inspired a group of health professionals – along with legal professionals, faith leaders, academics and advocates – to pen an open letter accusing the government of wilful and deliberate harm to asylum seeker children and adults. Will you add your name?

Bill Ryan, a 92 year old grandfather and WWII Kokoda veteran has become an unlikely activist. When he heard the tiny town of Maules Creek was to become the location of the biggest coal mine in construction in Australia, Bill joined hundreds... of locals, taking the fight into his own hands.

A picture says a thousand words, and right here is the picture of the Australia we're fighting to protect.

Joe Hockey wants to divide Australians into lifters and leaners. But the truth is, we're all lifters and leaners at different times ...and in different ways. Any of us can fall through the cracks, as this man did in a train station in Perth. But the community of passengers lifted and leaned together, and got him back on his feet.

Mr Abbott, you're pushing your luck (and ours!).

The Department of Health has admitted there's no telling how much the proposed GP-fee will end up being. As we all suspected, it's the first step towards the dismantling of universal healthc...are in Australia in favour of a US-style health lottery.

But fortunately, ordinary Australians are going all in for Medicare, with over 100,000 signed onto the campaign. Will you help us beat the odds?: http://bit.ly/1o5ZTja

Christopher Pyne - don't you know that when your polling is at an all-time low, blocking people out of higher education might not be the smartest move?

With course fees expected to blow out, there's no doubt deregulation will be good for s...ome Vice-Chancellors' back pockets. But will a US-style higher education system be good for Australia? Pyne says yes, but The Australia Institute says no.
